Tucson’s Award-Winning Marana Trail System ExpandsTucson’s Award-Winning Marana Trail System Expands Marana, Arizona – The Marana Trail System, consistently recognized as one of the finest urban trail networks in the nation, has further expanded its offerings with the addition of two new trails. The Marana Trail System is known for its diversity of trails catering to hikers, bikers, and equestrians, all within the picturesque and rugged Sonoran Desert landscape. The newest addition to the system is the 1.5-mile Marana Vista Trail, a loop trail that offers panoramic views of the surrounding Santa Catalina Mountains and Tucson city lights. The trail traverses both natural and developed areas, providing a unique blend of desert ambiance and urban connectivity. Another recent addition is the 2-mile Vermillion Valley Trail, designed specifically for mountain biking. This intermediate-level trail features technical challenges, rolling hills, and switchbacks, offering a thrilling experience for avid cyclists. The trail showcases the area’s unique geological formations and desert flora. These new trails join the existing network of over 35 miles of trails, which includes popular routes such as the Marana Creek Greenbelt Trail, a shaded 4-mile paved path along the Marana Creek, and the 5-mile Fantasy Island Trail, a challenging trail that climbs the slopes of nearby mountains. “We are thrilled to expand our award-winning trail system, providing more outdoor recreation opportunities for our residents and visitors,” said Mayor Ed Honea. “The Marana Trail System is a testament to our commitment to preserving our natural environment while promoting healthy lifestyles.” The system has received numerous accolades, including the “Best in the Southwest” award from the Arizona Office of Tourism for three consecutive years. The trails are also recognized by the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). With its diverse trails and stunning scenery, the Marana Trail System offers something for every outdoor enthusiast. The expansion adds to its appeal and further enhances its status as a premier trail destination in the Southwest.
