Albuquerque Ablaze: Wildfire Rages, Scorching Thousands of AcresAlbuquerque Ablaze: Wildfire Rages, Scorching Thousands of Acres Albuquerque, New Mexico – A raging wildfire has engulfed thousands of acres on the outskirts of Albuquerque, forcing evacuations and threatening homes. The blaze, dubbed the “Sandia Peak Fire,” has spread rapidly, fueled by dry vegetation and high winds. As of Monday afternoon, the fire has consumed over 5,000 acres and is only 20% contained. Firefighters from multiple agencies are battling the inferno on the ground and from the air, with helicopters making water drops. “This is a very dangerous and rapidly moving fire,” Albuquerque Fire Chief Harold Garcia said. “We are urging residents to evacuate immediately if they are asked to do so.” Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for residents living near the foothills of the Sandia Mountains, including the communities of Embudo, Carnuel, and Coyote Springs. An evacuation center has been set up at the Expo New Mexico. The wildfire has already destroyed several homes and businesses. Firefighters are working tirelessly to prevent further damage and protect lives. “We are doing everything we can to contain this fire and protect our community,” said Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected.” The smoke from the wildfire is visible for miles around, and air quality has been impacted. Residents are advised to stay indoors and wear masks if they must go outside. The cause of the Sandia Peak Fire is still under investigation. However, authorities believe it may have been started by human activity. The fire has brought back memories of the devastating Black Forest Fire in Colorado in 2013, which destroyed over 500 homes and killed two people. New Mexico has also been ravaged by wildfires in recent years, including the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire last year, which burned over 340,000 acres. As the Sandia Peak Fire continues to rage, authorities are asking for the public’s help in preventing further damage. Residents are urged to follow evacuation orders and be aware of their surroundings. They are also asked to report any suspicious activity or potential fire hazards to the authorities.
