Salonen, a renowned Finnish conductor and composer, will succeed Riccardo Muti, who held the position for 13 seasons. “Esa-Pekka Salonen is one of the most innovative and influential conductors of our time,” said CSO President and CEO Jeff Alexander. “His passion for music, his commitment to excellence, and his ability to connect with audiences make him the ideal choice to lead the CSO into its future.” Salonen, 64, is known for his adventurous programming, his advocacy for contemporary music, and his collaborations with leading soloists and ensembles.
