This gargantuan feat of sandwich-making has officially broken the Guinness World Record for the largest hoagie. The massive sandwich, aptly named “The Broad Street Bomber,” consists of a towering stack of 3,750 slices of American cheese, 2,500 slices of ham, 2,500 slices of turkey, 2,000 slices of roast beef, 2,000 slices of Italian meats, and an astonishing 1,500 slices of pepperoni. All of this culinary splendor is held together by a gigantic 15-foot-long hoagie roll that required 150 pounds of dough to make. A team of 20 Wawa employees spent two tireless days meticulously assembling the sandwich, using a forklift to lift the colossal creation into place. The finished product was so large that it had to be transported to a nearby parking lot for display, where it quickly became a viral sensation on social media. The record-breaking sandwich was the brainchild of Wawa’s Director of Hoagies, Chris Gheysens, who said he wanted to create something truly unforgettable for the city of Philadelphia. “Wawa is known for our hoagies, and we wanted to do something special for our hometown,” Gheysens said. “This sandwich is a symbol of the passion and creativity that goes into every Wawa hoagie.” The giant sandwich will be on display until Sunday, August 21, at the Wawa store at Broad and South Streets. Philadelphia residents and visitors alike are encouraged to come and witness this gastronomic marvel in person. The previous Guinness World Record for the largest hoagie was held by a sandwich made in New Jersey in 2012, which weighed a mere 2,383 pounds. The Broad Street Bomber has now become the undisputed champion of colossal sandwiches, a testament to the unwavering sandwich-making prowess of Philadelphia and Wawa.
